MSP SAFETY
WORKING FOR YOU 24/7 . . . . AIR SAFETY,
HEALTH & SECURITY
COMMITTEE
The focus on Flight
Attendants' workplace and working lives by the Association of
Flight Attendants-CWA through its Air Safety, Health & Security
Committees at 20
member airlines is strongly represented at NWA
AFA. For over 60 years, AFA has
been a driving force in the recognition of our
essential safety and security
responsibilities as Inflight Safety Professionals.
AFA's efforts to improve work rules and working conditions dates back
to the early
1930's and the very first "stewardesses". Through
steady cabin safety improvements, regulatory reform and major changes leading
to safer aircraft, AFA has been recognizedas the preeminent Flight Attendant
union fighting for professional FAs everyday.
These efforts are reflected in NWA AFA's Air Safety,
Health & Security Committees. The LEC Safety Chair is responsible for the
safety, health and security interests of local base FAs - and the first
'point of contact' on such issues and concerns. The Local Safety Chair
works directly with the LEC Officers and the MEC Air Safety,Health & Security
Chair/Vice Chair on issues at the local level, as well as those concerns which
may impact our FAs systemwide.
Current issues being addressed include (but not limited to): lightweight
serving
carts, B787 cabin interiors planning, new TATL
B757-5600 service, communicable
disease notification, flight deck door ingress/egress
protocols, inflight incident
notification and reporting - and a wide variety
of timely issues made a part of the
quarterly (contractual) Joint Safety, Security & Health
Committee.
Your NWA AFA Air Safety, Health & Security Committee is here to represent
your interests - both at the Local and MEC level
- in efforts to reduce injuries and
accidents, promote improved working conditions
and protect/support FA health and
well-being - both on and off the aircraft.
Let us hear from you! Safe flying . . . . . Jeanne Elliott, MEC Chair -
