LEC 95 MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Tuesday, July 13, 2010
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Special Guest

Bill McGlashen

Executive Assistant to the AFA-CWA International President Pat Friend

Bill will update LEC 95 members on the anticipated time lime leading up to election to bring AFA-CWA representation to ALL Delta flight attendants.  Bill will share some of our campaign strategies including member mobilization, campaign visibility and our “Get Out The Vote (GOTV) plan.

Bill is responsible for coordinating the AFA-CWA campaign with our DAL/NWA C3 members, GOTV, MEC/LEC officers, and our visibility teams around the Delta flight attendant system.

Our upcoming representation election is a historic event.  The National Mediation Board (NMB) stood up to challenges by the Air Transport Association (ATA) and Delta Air Lines and delivered changes in the voting rules to ensure our right to a truly democratic voting process.  The rest will be up to ALL of us to deliver a strong “YES” vote, affirming our right to maintain AFA-CWA representation and an industry-leading collective bargaining agreement.

Members are encouraged to bring your questions to this important meeting.  We want everyone to leave the meeting with a clear understanding of the election process.

 NWA SUMMER RESERVE S.O.S

(Summer Reserve and Scheduling Outreach and Support)
NWA Summer Reserve S.O.S. to the rescue!

Your Local Council would like to remind you of the NWA Summer Reserve and Scheduling Outreach and Support—or Reserve S.O.S., for short…..

NWA-AFA officers will be teaming up to provide special 24/7 Reserve and Scheduling support on a dedicated phone line to address your on-the-spot Scheduling, Rescheduling and Reserve questions.

Program this number into your phone: 888.3.NWA.AFA, option 2. (That’s 888.369.2232) or try summer@nwaafa.org for less time-sensitive issues.

As always, contact your Local Council Officers first for all scheduling, discipline, contract, grievance and rumor control issues.  Check the www.afa95.org for the local council calendar.  We recognize scheduling emergencies come in all sizes and shapes, and never when it’s convenient. Click HERE for MSP Local 95 contacts.  “Can they do that?” “Do I have to do this?” Sometimes you just can’t wait for an answer. The NWA Summer Reserve S.O.S. (http://nwaafa.org/resources/sos/)is your supplemental 24/7 scheduling support to tackle this summer’s unique challenges, together. Keep your contract close and an ally on speed-dial at 888.3.NWA.AFA, option 2.

Scheduling - HOT over 4th of July weekend –

During the 4th of July weekend your AFA-CWA officers were very busy.  First, thank you for taking the time to call us to allow us to help get things on track.  Second, we would like to remind you of a couple things that were in the forefront this weekend.

  • You are NEVER obligated to answer your phone when you are not on duty; during rest, days off, or on layovers.
    • For those on Time Available, per your contract, you are on duty from 9:00am – 5:00pm.  Anything outside of that you are not required to answer the phone or check your schedule via ACCESS.
    • During layovers you are required to be “reasonably available” to scheduling.  You are NOT required to carry a cell phone while on layovers.

With all of that said, please remember if you go into ACCESS and notify or answer a call from scheduling you ARE required to accept the notification and take the assignment.

  • When you are accepting an assignment, original or reschedule, and you are not sure that assignment is “legal”, ask scheduling to clarify the assignment.  PLEASE remember to use the words “I would like a review of my crew orders please”.   Once that review has happened, your next call should be to your Local officers or to the SOS hotline.  Click HERE for contact information.

  • With the security events directly affecting many crews across the system, including the MSP base, we would like to remind you to review the “Fear of Flying” policy.  Click HERE to read the policy.   If you have any questions about the policy please contact your MSP EAP committee.  Click HERE for the EAP contact list.

E-News-

One goal as your Local officers is to get accurate, important information to you as soon as possible.  We would like to remind you to keep up to date on all e-mails, websites and mailings.  We fully understand that we are getting flooded with information from Delta.  However, we are getting closer to voting for continued AFA-CWA representation.   We want all of our members to make educated decisions in addition to becoming aware of what is happening out on the line.

Remember that the Master Executive Council (MEC) sends a weekly E-News on MONDAY, your Local Executive Council (LEC 95) sends a bi-weekly E-News on WEDNESDAY.  The Delta AFA campaign will send information on an as needed basis.  These E-News and updates are full of information that has come to our attention by you the Flight Attendants.
